In my photographs, I use symbolism that feels like a second intuition to each of us. In this project, that symbolism takes the form of old, forgotten, withered porcelain doll heads that I search for at antique auctions.
They are no longer loved, in a state of decay, for time is not kind to them. Their cracked faces are like our wrinkles, and their worn-out eyes – perhaps like ours? From crying? Their heads are hairless, severed from the rest of the body, for this is what happens mentally when we do not accept our physicality. Withered, rejected, forgotten…
That is precisely why I want to speak about us! About our difficult experiences, emotions suppressed and hidden deep away from family and friends, which hold us back and make us unhappy.
I want to scream! To scream about what hurts us! That is where this project was born.
And in the end, I will say this: they choose me. Sara
